July Have a Go!

Have you ever thought about giving archery a go but you’re not sure you’ll enjoy it enough to invest in a beginner’s course?

Now’s your chance to come along with no experience and shoot some arrows. For £5 you will have 1 on 1 tuition from experienced archers for 18 arrows. You will gate a taste of what it’s like to shoot a recurve bow on our world record status archery range.

So come along between 10 am and 4 pm on Sunday July 14th and see whether you’ve got what it takes to be the next Robin Hood (or Hawkeye, or whatever the kids are into these days!)

No sign up necessary, just turn up!

Work Party

Work Party

Every year the club has a work party day this will be a half day (probably 10-2ish) to do a variety of tasks including clearing and cleaning the Clubhouse, maintenance of posts, white lining, maintenance and painting of the fascias etc.  It’s good fun and we provide refreshments for the workers, so do come along for as long or as little of the session as you can.

Boss building and maintenance, and stand building will be taking place in the meantime and will only require a small number of helpers to support the Equipments Officers in what is quite a substantial job – if you are available during the day midweek and are interested in helping out email us on yorkarcherssociety@gmail.com and we can forward your details.

Junior sessions!

  • York Archers Society (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Over the summer of 2019 two of our younger experienced archers, Jess and Dan, will be running some fun junior sessions. These sessions will run on the last Friday of every month at 6.30 pm starting in April. The sessions will include fun games and help juniors from within the club develop friendships. Our normal safeguarding rules will apply as these are not coached sessions, although Dan is a qualified level 1 coach, so parents must remain within sight and sound of their children at all times. The club house will be open and the normal tea and coffee facilities available.

How to help on a beginner's course - training

The club runs regular beginner’s courses, which most of you will have been on. The courses are an integral part of the existence of the club, bringing in both archers and the funds we need to keep our membership costs as low as possible.

What we need to run those courses are volunteers. Most people have said they’d be willing to help out on the courses but they just don’t know what they’re doing.

To remedy this Sarah, our development officer and candidate county coach, is putting on this short session to give people the skills required to tech beginners how to shoot safely.

Please let Sarah know if you plan on attending so she can have an idea of numbers.

Annual Frostbite

Join your fellow members at the annual club Frostbite

The frostbite round is an unofficial round consisting of 30 arrows at 30 m on an 80 cm target face.
It is shot during the indoor season but outdoors and, as long as it’s safe, regardless of the weather.
We’ve shot it in rain, snow, attempted it in wind, and also blistering sunshine!

It’s open to all club members and will be followed by a bacon (or veggie alternative) sandwich made on the BBQ.

Join the fun, no sign up nessecary, club members only!
